A review of Chocolate District in Valletta

My first time entering Chocolate District was last Tuesday. The exterior of the store attracted me right away with its dark wood and bold logo and the first thing I said before taking a step in was: "Dan, we can go in, but I am not buying anything!". Yeah, right, of course. I walked in and could not look away from all their products! I won't go into detail about everything they have, however I did spend a little cash on two of my favourite teas - china jasmin (green tea infused with jasmin flavour) and earl grey which came in triangles, as well as a bar of chocolate which was perfection. It was by Cafe Tasse, so you can research it if you're a chocoholic of any sort! All Hail To Belgian Chocolate!

On the other hand, let's talk business. I just bought a new stand and a couple of backdrops today for Monday's carnival themed shoot and I honestly did not realise they would be quite so pricey. I went to a couple of different stores and most of the prices were very similar so it was probably me just underestimating photography equipment. I have previously used plain walls, bed sheets and cardboard for home-based studio backgrounds, however, although it is low cost and relatively easy to use, I was slightly annoyed by the fact that cloth would be creased in the background, and even if I ironed it, it would reflect and some shadows would still show up on it... and that is the reason I upgraded my backdrops to purposely made cloth for photography studios with a non-reflective spray covering, that are also washable and iron-able. It really can't get any simpler than that! I'm excited to see how well they work as backgrounds and hopefully they will surpass my expectations (If not - you'll be hearing about it).

I am also looking for an assistant for this coming Monday evening, so if you or anyone else is interested, please contact me! What I mostly need is someone to help me with moving lights/reflectors, overall assisting me, and if you are studying to be a photographer or would just like some experience in that sort of environment, you are more than welcome to join as well as take a couple of photos here and there whenever there is time in between shots. Looking forward to hearing back!

Valentine's Day and Valletta at Night

Sorry for the very late post today, I have been busy planning all the shoots for the next couple of weeks and getting everything together. The sea-inspired shoot will be happening this coming Sunday weather permitting. Make up and styling will be done by myself, and the model is Julia. I will also have Fred taking some behind-the-scenes shots for me so that I will have some extra photos to show from behind-the-scenes. I am extremely excited by the outfits and make up looks that we will be using. On another note, I will also be doing a carnival-themed shoot towards the end of next week, I will be back with some more info on that very soon.

Besides photography though, My Valentine's Day was spent relaxing with my boyfriend. We gobbled up some sushi, went to the cinema, enjoyed ourselves bowling, and then had a wonderful candlelight dinner. It was such a special day and even more so for me because he had planned the whole day himself.

Sunday night, a couple of friends and I had decided to go to Coach & Horses, I hadn't been in a while and there was a Homebakes night which means that the venue gets someone to provide food on the night, always a different company, depending on the event at the bar. On the night there was a DJ duo called Frawla, which played some trippy music and there was also Barefoot and Curious.

"Barefoot and Curious is a controlled experiment that is tiptoeing out of a little kitchen into the real world. Teaching the island to embrace the fact that food is messy and fun, weird and wonderful....did someone say beer and white chocolate? The Barefoot and Curious mission is simple - to make you play with your food, one delectable morsel at a time."

This catering company is absolutely fantastic, offering piggy doghnuts, beef wraps along with pannacotta tea as well! They cater for small events and dinner parties! (Check out their Facebook page under the same name).

To finish off my Monday blog post, I have added a couple of photos I took around Valletta tonight, while I was strolling around with a good friend of mine, Dan. He's basically a history know-it-all, and was inspiring me on a bit of information on every corner of this capital city. As for me, I am still in Valletta at the Palazzo Prince D'Orange typing out all my thoughts and I feel like it has come to an end. I do apologise but I feel I have rambled enough and I am about to pass out on Dan's laptop so here's to us and our little exploration, love to all and have a pleasant, good night.
