It's coming. 10 more days until the celebration of love. The day of making your girlfriend/boyfriend feel like the best damn thing in this world. I'm writing an article of what she could think about buying you as we speak, so we can all feel quite special on this highly over-rated day. But this is about you. This is about you buying a present she is going to absolutely love on a day that is significant for the both of you.
Jewellery
Jewellery is probably the best and easiest option as a gift, you can never go wrong unless the type of jewellery you buy her is hideous in her eyes and that's where I come in. It is very important for you to observe and understand the kinds of accessories she wears. Are her rings big or are they simple? Are her earrings long or are they studs? Does she wear white, yellow gold or rose gold coloured jewellery? If you really pay attention, you will come to an understanding of what she "goes for" - maybe she likes big and bold AND simple and delicate BUT it is always based on gold - so there you go, you already know the colour of the jewellery to buy. Has she pointed anything out in a shop that she liked? Or online? Does she have a favourite jewellery brand? You can ask one of her friends to ask her discretely so that you wouldn't make it obvious yourself. Try not to go for too cheap here, many girls can notice bad from good and it won't give her a good impression of how much she means to you. Also keep in mind that just because your significant other is female - it does not mean that she will wear hearts, butterflies and flowers, especially if you have a rocker girl type of partner - you would probably rather go for some more edgy pieces. Here are my favourite pieces from some new trends of jewellery that in my opinion would be great choices for your special one, prices and brands included! Something for everyone! Easy peasy.
TIPS
1. If you are thinking of buying her a ring, borrow one of hers so you can compare the size at the shop to make sure it will fit her. If she is a perfectionist and will know it is gone, then just try her ring on when she's not looking and see on which finger of yours it fits, how (tight fitting, loose fitting) and till where on your finger it fits, then try on the ring you want to present her with at the shop and make sure it fits the same way.
2. Don't worry if you make a mistake, most shops are more than happy to change a ring size if it's too small/big. On the other hand, earrings are mostly NEVER exchanged because of hygiene reasons.
3. If your girl is into quirky/mystical things, try checking out what her birth stone is, and ask for it in shops.
4. You can customize anything you buy for her. Usually necklaces or rings (on the inside) are engraved at a jewellery store with a person's name, date of birth, an "I love you", co-ordinates of where the couple met or the date of the day met.
ACCESSORIES/CLOTHING
Here are some great items that your girl will love to receive and you can enjoy some of them too (wink wink). For the accessories, please bear in mind that buying a red scarf from the market for 3EUR won't have the same effect - not even for the socks nor gloves. Try going out of your way to figure out what brand/designer she likes and try buying her the items from there, she would appreciate it much more. If you are going to opt for lingerie, check the sizes she wears on her bust and hips to make sure both bra and panties would fit perfectly on her body. Have fun!
PERFUME
Be very careful here - many people think that the perfume they think smells nice would also be pleasant-smelling for someone else, WRONG. Besides people having different scents they like, the chemicals in the perfume mix differently with people's skin too - that means that although the top note vanilla parfum smells gorgeous on your sister, it might smell like absolute crap on your partner. The best way about going about this is research. By research, what I mean is you can ask her some questions like "What's your favourite cologne on me?" to distract her from the next question which can be, "Hmm, I love (name of a perfume) on you, is that your favourite too?" and then you've won - if so and so is her favourite perfume then check if the bottle is almost finished, if it is then it would be a great reason to buy another one for her, if it's not nearing the end then try to see if there is a continuation of the perfume in a body lotion, body scrub, hand cream, etc.
Some websites offer a 'quiz' type of questionnaire where they offer similar types of perfumes to the ones she already has based on similar notes in the make up of the perfume - that might be a great idea if you are planning on buying her a new perfume altogether. Here are some of my favourites, which are usually very sweet, some a bit muskier and some more oriental, but always in the fruity-floral department.
FOR THE HOUSE
Many girls including myself like objects for the interiors this includes some statement vases, candles, champagne flutes, cushions, frames. This isn't a very hard gift to give her just make sure that if she is into modern design, not to give her anything on the antique, and vice-versa.
Those are the most common gifts given to females on Valentine's day, so we have basically covered everything. There are going to be some girls that don't fit these gifts and don't worry about that - maybe your girl is a gadget nerd and wants some cool new earphones, a new mobile/phone cover, a portable speaker, an on-the-go mobile charger, a new videogame or a gaming keyboard, the list goes on and on. Always remember that objects can be personalised and that presentation is KEY when presenting the gift. If you're broke at the moment, a sweet love letter will do. My boyfriend has given me a jar full of notes to open up everyday in the past which I still have and that's a great DIY gift that your girl will love and remember. If you're a musician, perhaps you can write her a song and play it on the guitar and sing along sweetly. A bouquet of her favourite flowers is always lovely too. Most of all just remember that it is the thought that counts and if worse comes to worst then just surprise her with a red rose and a kiss ♡
