The beginning of Malta Fashion Week

After a long weekend, I have much to write about starting from Thursday's Malta Fashion Week & Awards Launch at Medasia up to me being right here in bed sorting out all my papers, documents and shoots. WARNING : This is a long post. There are also many pictures. Enjoy.

From the last post I made on Thursday, you could probably tell I was running very late, like it wasn't obvious enough! I only started getting ready 45 minutes before Stephanie came for me in San Gwann to go to Medasia. I was already lucky that I had a lift, because for those that don't know, I have yet to go for driving lessons and get a car, meaning that without Steph I would have had to catch a bus. Sounds horrible now, but I did it last year so it can't be the worst thing ever! Anyway, so unfortunately I didn't have time to let you all know about what I had done since the previous Monday. I didn't end up going to Blitz's exhibition on Tuesday because they opened later on in the day and I was in Valletta in the morning only, however I did get to see the Lines of Flight exhibition by Louise Marie Kold. I have got to say that it was a very interesting collection of work, that being said I am not particularly interested in metal art, so to speak, yet I still found the artist's attention to detail and creativity inspiring. Besides the time spent at the exhibition, I was also re-arranging my website at home as I mentioned in my other post already. I wanted a very 'clean' look and I think the current theme serves me well. Now continuing with Thursday's story...

MFWA Launch at Medasia

For Thursday's event, I wore a black and red bodycon dress that I had gotten from giddys.co.uk and a black shimmer blazer from McBailey. Necklace was from New Look, and shoes from Stradivarius. I thought I was slightly over-dressed with the revealing décolletage compared to the other guests, however that didn't stop me from having fun that night, either way, don't all girls just want to have fun?

Must be said that I met dozens of amazing people that night - models, make up artists, photographers, designers, hair stylists, even chefs and real estate agents! All were lovely people to have a chat with over a glass of prosecco (along with all the sushi and canapés I gobbled down), and that was basically it for Thursday night!

MFWA Creative Factory 7 'Biosphere' & Ritienne Zammit 'AMEN'

Saturday morning held the first show of Maltese designers in Republic Street, Valletta. Starting off with Biosphere, the collection by Creative Factory 7 was inspired by other species such as butterflies, bees and fish, which are actually clearly seen on many of their designs.

Biosphere was tailored by Gaetano Deguara, with hair being done by Christian Galea, and make up by Krista Paris. On the other hand, Ritienne Zammit's Collection 'AMEN' had a very different theme, in this case being inspired by religious catholic factors. Just like last year, she continued to experiment with prints and textures which is definitely a statement expression in her work as seen below :

Lots of fashion and style with plenty of colour and textures was seen on the guests invited that hot summer morning.

MFWA New Designers Fashion Show

That same night was the New Designers Show, and unfortunately I ended up turning up late because of traffic, because of this, there was absolutely no space for me anywhere near the end of the runway of course and I had to find another spot to try take some shots. I only had my kit lens with me so I basically butchered myself into a very bad situation, where I was in a horrible angle, with no light reaching the models, chandeliers in the way and the list goes on and on. To make matters worse, on the way to the Casino Maltese, I was sprinting through Valletta in my long skirt with my bag and camera on my side and I managed to rip off my Media pass from it's lead around my neck. I only noticed when I got there and was going to show the man at the entrance my pass and I tugged at my top instead. He didn't question me and let me up right away, I obviously looked like I had just ran 5 miles and my lead with MFWA on it was still hanging around my neck, and my camera was on my arm, it wasn't too hard to tell, that that was where I was meant to be. However, all things aside, I was slightly disappointed in myself. I didn't manage to take much photos and for that reason I will only display two of them on today's post, one of the place itself, and the other of the model Bibiche, wearing TAIA's collection (New Designer made up of Alicia Schembri-Roslichenko and Mandy Farrugia). I feel I owe that to them after meeting them at the MFWA Launch at Medasia. I will, however, be uploading more photos of these shows later on in the week on Facebook, so keep an eye out for them.

MFWA CAROLINE HILI - DESERT STORM

Caroline Hili's fashion show yesterday was AMAZING. Makeup, outfits, models, set - everything was out of this world! I was in bliss while watching the models float down the Renzo Piano steps in Valletta. I haven't got much more to say regarding this because I just won't stop if I continued. Here are the electric images from last night.

If you have made it this far down the post, thank you. I have recently been getting a lot more views and feedback from people in Malta as well as abroad and I cannot be any more greatful. You all are wonderful and thank you for supporting me and my dreams. If you really do love my work, then go ahead and share it with your friends and family, let people know about it and help me get to where I need to be :) and all that's left now is the rest of the week! Tonight at 8:30pm at St.Elmo's Square, there is going to be the Charles & Ron show so I am really looking forward to that, and as for all the other shows, I'll be back on Thursday to let you all know how it went. Take care and much love for this warm Monday X
